The Recreation Center on Campus is highly used among students and community members; serving as a facility to achieve fitness needs. Most of us are aware of the basic assets the gym may provide, but may not know all it offers. As an employee at the Rec. Center, I want to share some of the awesome resources available to you!
Western is lucky to have a wide variety of group fitness classes! Some of them that are available to you are…
Mixxed Fit: One of my personal favorites! If you’ve taken Zumba, the format is similar, but the feel is more of a “hip-hop” and “explosive” style! It’s described as, “a people-inspired dance format that incorporates intense dance moves and easy to follow choreography as well as always having the freshest music. “
Belly Dancing: Most students don’t know there is a belly dancing class offered in the fitness schedule. Its description states, “Learn a solid foundation of modern cabaret and Middle Eastern dance steps. Postures, isolations, shimmies. “
Turbo Kick: Also a personal favorite. This class is definitely a high cardio workout! It is described as, “Kickboxing meets Hip Hop! Kick, punch, and groove your way through this intense cardio workout.”
You can click on the fitness link at the bottem for more class options that are offered at Western! You can drop in a class for $5, or get an x-pass at this point in the quarter for only $30! An x-pass allows you take any, and as many fitness classes as you want for a quarter period of time.
Besides fitness classes, the Rec. Center also has a injury rehabilitation program! I’ve personally gone through them before, and they are awesome! If you have an injury, you can go to the student health center, and get a referral if appropriate for the injury. You can then make an appointment at the Rec. Center to get started! This resource is free to Western students!
Lastly, the Rec. Center has an awesome fitness staff with personal trainers! Western provides a flexible training staff! They are Kinesiology Majors that have the knowledge to help you get the results you are hoping to achieve. You can start with an hour of personal training as a student for only $25! The staff is incredibly kind and helpful, and it’s a great way to enhance your fitness journey.
I hope you take advantage of some of the great resources available to you! There is so much the WWU Wade King Recreation Center has to offer.
