For most people the question of “Where are you from?” comes easily, maybe it’s the country where you were born or the city where you grew up, but for Max Hazel, it's not so easy. For the first six years of Max’s life he lived in various small towns in Washington before he moved to Doha, Qatar. Qatar is a small country just north of Saudi Arabia, jutting out into the Persian Gulf. “That’s the first place I considered home, because I’m from a lot of places and Doha has been the most influential in my life,” Max said.
Seeking to be an ‘active global citizen’ Max is majoring in International Business and minoring in Spanish. He started out as an Applied Mathematics major but the deeper he went into the math world the more he realized his heart wasn’t in it. Max was hesitant to switch to his current major, “I honestly had no idea what in the world I would do with this major because there is no specific job that you have waiting for you after you graduate, this degree is about what you make of it,” Max said.
Physical fitness is a huge part of Max’s life. “I live for the rush of overcoming challenges and fitness is something that has always allowed me to fuel this unrelenting thirst, ” Max said. Currently he is focused on pushing the limits of his physical agility by cross training and running.
IBUS 372 or Cross-Cultural Management with Dr. Skylar Powell was “hands down” the best class Max ever took. The class is about global cultural perspectives and how they interact with each other in terms of international business. “Skylar Powell is literally the most enthusiastic and genuinely interesting person I have ever had the pleasure of working with at this institution,” Max said.
