“Giving is the highest expression of potency. In the very act of giving, I experience my strength, my wealth, my power. This experience of heightened vitality and potency fills me with joy. I experience myself as overflowing, spending, alive, hence as joyous. Giving is more joyous than receiving, not because it is a deprivation, but because in the act of giving lies the expression of my aliveness.” ~ Erich Fromm
The We Are WWU campaign has brought out the best in all of us. We came to think this campaign would be a handful and we were right! With the dedication we have all put into our own groups we have come to understand the importance of corporation.
When you have a fairly large group of individuals working on the same fundraiser you tend to come up with more ideas than necessary you quickly understand that all your suggestions will not be used. That is why not taking anything personal will help you keep a professional distance from your campaign.
Great campaigners, tend to let go to anything that makes the solution all about them and realize that everyone is working toward the same goal. When working on a fundraiser you quickly understand the time is either your enemy or your best friend. Once comprehending the fact that time is your only limited resource you have, you becoming mindful of how you need to focus your time and energy on limited things as well.
Lastly, you gain the impact of working on a fundraiser by keeping the end goal in mind. Meetings can feel like one long to-do lists, and you have to expect the unexpected, by constantly reminding yourself about why you’re doing your fundraiser from the beginning than you understand why you have to keep moving on even after the long nights of just going over scheduling an event.
Coming into this fundraiser from the very beginning I thought we were the ones that would be making a difference and impacting others. I never thought that this fundraiser itself would help open so many more opportunities for me. This was not only a fundraiser, it was a journey of seeing what kind of impact a group of students can have on a university. Some people dream about making a difference others actually go out and make a difference.
